I'm a happy mama

I shall give some history about miss.s. As a baby she was perfect. She rarily cried or made a sound but did smile and responded to her name and laughed when tickled. She also said mama, dada and roger roger(star wars) at 1 year. She also was crawling at 6 months and walking by 1. She was developing at a normal rate. When she was around 7 months I started a home daycare. I did that for 2.5 years and never had she tried to socialize with the other children, participate in activies or even attempt to sing songs. She was always off in her own little world. Whatever thats fine, she was still very young but I was suprised that she had ZERO interest in anything. Fast foward to April2010 and she was not talking and still babbling. At this point she was almost 3. We had her first speech assessment at TykeTalk. She was diagnosed with moderate/severe speech production delay. So While on the waitlist they gave me face exercises to do with her as we suspected something was going on with her jaw as she was doing weird movements. During that assessment I was asked questions about how well she eats. Up untill about 2 she would choked and gagged on almost everything and I was continually saving her life because she wouldnt chew the food. It didn't take long to make the connection.  17 weeks of speech therapy through TykeTalk and I can happily say my kid is talking and we can understand most of what she says :)

Now we are facing new concerns. Miss.S is a VERY energetic child. Often impulsive and destructive to objects around our home, struggles to focus except on a couple activities(obsesses about her puzzles)and theres been other behaviours that ive wondered about sometimes extreme and sometimes not. During her time at TykeTalk the speech pathologist finally, after struggling to get her to sit still and do the activities, reccommended that she gets a referal for a developmental assessment. I have always had the gut feeling that something was "off" with her but everyone else who doesnt have to be with the kid 24/7 kept telling me "oh shes fine if you take her to the dr they will drug her blah blah blah". I was relieved when finally someone else saw what I saw! I was made to feel terrible for thinking something was different about her. Now I realize it was kinda my fault everyone thought she was perfectly normal because if I knew she was having one of those days where she would get crazy hyper and act up nonstop I just wouldnt take her anywhere and very picky that we have a strict routine because she would be impossible to handle if we broke the routine. Noone was around to see what I live with.  She's been on the waitlist for that assessment for a year because we suspect ADHD. Theres also concerns about how she socializes with other children. She does not directly intereact with them but more plays with them but doing her own thing. Kinda how toddlers play and this has concerned me for some time and I take her to a play group every week outside of school to encourage her to play with other children.

Yesturday I had a meeting at Miss.S school with the teacher, early learning person and the speech pathologist. I was a nervous wreck waiting for this meeting. I've heard so many horror stories from other parents of the schools not being helpful and whatnot. This was not the case. The speech pathologist has been reassessing her over the past couple weeks and is working on a program for her for at school aswell is willing to send home some of the activities as I would like to reinforce what shes doing at the school. The teacher has also noted her lack of focus, how she obsesses about certain things aswell as how she doesn't directly interact with her friends. They did up a report about not only the speech but the social and attention issues for when sophia is assessed. I'm also happy to report that sophia is now in the nomal percentile for speech and language although understanding questions she scored in the 5th percentile but the rest she was scoring around 35th percentile. I realize thats the low end of average but she started at 0 so we are very proud of her.

So many people make comments such as "I don't know how you can handle being with her all day by yourself" but really I'm used to it. Its exhausting work(I wont lie I do sometimes need a break and I do sometimes get frustrated) but I knew becoming a parent was not going to be easy. Her different needs is not what she is, just a part of her and I don't mind. She's healthy, brilliant, happy, hilarious, shes is great with her baby brother and is always helping, she stands up for her friends when she see's they are being mistreated and she's a sweety and I adore her, crazyness and all.

Now excuse me while I go clean glue off my coffee table.

Oh the things we say!

Conversation between Nick and I about my childhood and my birthday this year(which isn't for another couple months but he likes to plan stuff out ahead of time).

Me: As a kid I always made my dad buy me a bag of Ruffles sour cream and onion chips on his way home from the bar. Those are my favourite.
Nick: Well on your birthday instead of playing in cake like Fergie you can roll around in chips because your April and your AWESOME.
Me: Yeah...I could totally pull that off. Fuck cake. I want chips! They have to be Ruffles, none of that lays or cheap Brand stuff.

Its not only Nick and I who have odd conversations.

Miss.V: I'm hungry
Me: *looks around my almost empty kitchen because I avoid grocery stores* Want a banana? We have lots of bananas!
Miss.V: Does it have vitamin A?
Me: uh...sure?
Miss.V: *stares at mom with attitude because she's stupid and doesn't know anything about bananas*
Me: Listen kid eat the banana or don't, I don't care. Its healthy, EVERYONE knows that.
Miss.V: OK OK I will eat the banana.

Of course I was then left wondering why the hell my kids question everything we feed them and why after all the junk she insists on eatings she's suddenly concerned about vitamins. I don't think I will ever understand the way her mind works.

Random sh!t on the internet day!

I think everyone knows I have a youtube addiction.... so here yea go!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3rbv_QbAU4&list=FL9UyHI5ADFWoN0fdZv2SL4g&index=3&feature=plpp_video   ahaha he's so sexy with his socks and moves. I can't stop giggling!

Here's something special that I would like to share. My husband is the star in this indiana jone style shoplifting video from back in the day. He was in the broadcasting class.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8o6QE8czNqE&list=FL9UyHI5ADFWoN0fdZv2SL4g&index=44&feature=plpp_video

Pictures I had meant to post last week but totally didn't..

..because I'm an unorganized lazy person with alot of kids who take up the little energy I have...and the hole gettin sick thing didn't help because honestly strep I don't need your help falling behind and can do so on my own. Oh and you can go away please so I can swallow without pain. definatly still sufferin but I'm awake so I probably shouldn't complain even though thats one of my many talents.

So here are some pictures of my super adorable kids during our cookie making adventure last week. I havent posted anything about them recently and thought I should since its kinda promised in the "About me" bit on the side  over there somewhere---->
Plus all the other mommies are posting about their kids and make me look like a crazy unloving parent. Which im not because instead of posting about my kids all day I do stuff with them. I'm sure when they are older they are gonna look back on their childhood and go "making cookies and having nerf gun wars with mom was fun" while other peoples kids will be like remember the days when our mom was so focused on us that instead of playing she was posting about us shitting ourselves on facebook and blogs? Pull out the nerf guns and shoot at your kids instead of posting about them!  My kids are at school and napping so im allowed to post about them :P I win!

Porn for pregnant ladies!

Hahahahaha came across this blog and thought this was funny.
http://www.pregnantchicken.com/pregnant-chicken-blog/2012/1/17/porn-for-pregnant-ladies.html

You don't have to be pregnant to enjoy this!

Ok I promise a real post later but Miss.S and Rye are staring at me like I have 2 heads for laughing at my laptop and I must go entertain them before school and naptime or they may try to murder me in my sleep.

Tip of the day

Toothpaste does not belong in ones eye. It does not feel good.

I have now done my duty in protecting you. Your welcome.

Explanation for my disapearing act plus some

I'm a magician! muahaha!!!

Ok I'm actually not but it would be cool if I was right?  So instead of being awesome I got strep throat and slept Sat, Sun and Monday. Most of that was a blur of Nick shoving painkillers and infection fighting pills down my throat and my fever being so bad that everything was spinning and my cat had 5 heads. I'm still currently high off a mixture of advil, tylonal and antibiotics so if this post seems a tad weird then you know why. So I will start  with posting a comic I made last week but never had a chance to post due to my non magical abilities of getting very VERY sick. Than I shall post instructions on how to make garlicky creamy potato soup that I promised Jordan. The comic introduces Jordan. He's awesome and feeds me alcohol. I'm sure encouraging my drinking is probably a bad idea but I don't mind.

Ok so here's how to make potato soup. Take how ever many potatos you feel like making soupy. If you want lots I reccomend more than 5 large potatoes....maybe like 7-10. Cut skin off and chop into smaller peices. If you have managed to get this far put your chopped potato into a big pot with lots of water and boil untill easily mashable. Drain about half the water when ready to mash it up. Ok so now that the potato is mashed add however much minced garlic you want, salt, pepper, oregano, shredded carrots, celery and chopped onion. Then add come coffee cream and milk untill it looks soupy. Taste test alot during this to make sure you add enough salt and garlic. You can probably add sour cream if you want. I havent froze any yet  so I can't say if it freezes well but im sure it will freeze just fine. It will thicken in fridge so when reheating you will need to add a little milk. This is not an exact recipe as I just started mixing this stuff together one night when I hadnt hit up the grocery store and lacked food and had a hungry family to feed so I just did what looked good with what I had.  Oh don't forget to wash the potatos.

Your welcome Jordan.. Thanks for making me screw up the blog routine that I was attempting to create but I did it for you because you are a cherished friend who promised me skyrim and its my blog so I create the rules and break them if I want to. I wont be posting a recipe tomorrow. I'll possibly post another comic though because theres another one I made last week that I had planned to share but didn't due to sleeping for 3 days with fever induced hallucinations. If ya'll are worried the cat is back down to one head and theres no need to rush him to the vet for some weird growing extra heads disease.

Go adsense! hahahaha

I thought it was worth sharing this amazingness. I knew that adsense would post ad's that are somehow related to the topics of my blog but I didnt even expect to see a gun ad.

Sad Nick

Stupid stuff on the internet day!

Fridays shall be my post random crap that I find day. I know it kinda seems weird that im going to have a routine for posting but being that I am probably the most unorganized person in the world I thought It would be good to have some structure. don't worry I'm positive there will be more random posts that barily make sense in the future.

This video is for the kids hehehehehe!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWF86D_UNxc&list=FL9UyHI5ADFWoN0fdZv2SL4g&index=1&feature=plpp_video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8bhreXejSs&list=FL9UyHI5ADFWoN0fdZv2SL4g&index=51&feature=plpp_video

Those theres some youtube videos to entertain you on this boring friday. I have to bake cookies and do crafts because the school decided to give the kids a day off .  Oh and Rye has impetigo and is beyond pissed off about it. I don't blame him, it looks painful plus he has to take icky antibiotics.  so far not a great start to this day.Thats all for now!

Recipe Wednesdays! Apple muffins mmmm

Its like heaven in your face. So you should make these and loves me forever for creating such an awesome recipe. I tried others and they were dry and not very appley so I did some experimenting and finally perfected it. Awesome recipe during the fall after you go apple picking and they freeze well.  Your welcome.

Apple muffins
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup sugar
lots of cinnamon...unless you don't like it much then do just a little
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
1 cup applesauce instead of egg.
1/4 cup butter, melted
2 cups apple - peeled, cored and chopped
1.Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Lightly grease 12 muffin cups or
line with paper muffin liners.

stir together milk, applesauce and butter. Stir mixture into flour mixture just until combined
. Fold in chopped apples. Spoon batter into prepared muffin cups.
3.Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into center

Swords vs. Guns

So for a while now hubby and I can't seem to agree one one thing. Should he get a gun or should I get a sword. Well I made a list of uses for each weapon and think he should buy me a sword. I found one with a pink handle!! I know amazing right?

So here we go!

Uses for guns
1) Act Macho holding it ( I seriously saw guys doing this at the range)
2) join a club
3) hunt

Uses for Swords
1) Hunt - Thats right I would hunt with a sword because im badass
2) chop fruits and vegetables ex. zuchinni
3) Act awesome by doing fancy swinging motions
4) knock down items that cannot be reached - I'm 5'2 so this seriously would come in handy
5) Carve a large roast
6) Pick up dirty laundry
7) Slay dragons - I know I say im waiting for zombie apocalypse but we should be prepared for dragons too. A gun would not be an appropiate weapon for dragon slaying, its just a ridiculas idea and not done. EVER.
8) Fighting zombies - gun makes too much noise and would only attract more zombies.

So even though my choice of weapon would obviously be the better choice neither one of us will get what we want...mostly cuz i have no money for either of those things or money to pay for proper storage( don't want the kids getting at dangerious stuff). Plus hubby would need to pay for a little card and papers saying he's allowed one. I got lots of dangerious toys laying around on the floor for zombies, dragons and intruders to trip on so we can get a head start on running. Does your family have a plan?

I've got my knight in shining dragon scales

My husband has a history of injuring himself while playing sports at work. Well today was no different. No he did not dislocate his shoulder again or bang up a leg. He got hit in the face with a ball and his glasses cut him (glasses are highly dangerious and should be worn with caution). Being a good loving and comforting wife I told him that for his suffering today he was getting a BIG bowl of chili when he gets home and then I told him that I should send him to work in protective gear and bubble wrap from now on. This was his response.

"riot gear would be best, and a weapon to fend off invaders!!! then i can take down dragons and wear their scales as armour!!!"

This is why I married him <3

WTF?!

http://www.metronews.ca/london/local/article/1069102--audio-fontana-unveils-london-s-new-theme-song

Turns out London has a theme song. Its not catchy its annoying. How the f*** is london the city of opportunity? Does the mayor not notice the unemployment rate?  There are homeless people, and families who are struggling because they have no jobs and its impossible to find work. In my opinion this song is entirly inappropiate and insulting to everyone who has lost their job and can't pay their bills. City of opportunity my ass. The money that was spent producing this song could have fed alot of mouths but no the money went towards an embarrassing song instead of helping PEOPLE.

Amazing youtube videos!!! yay!!!

amusing things to watch. Maybe I'll make fridays "random stupid stuff on the internet day"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcruBy7iU_w  I dance like that all the time ;)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7movKfyTBII&ob=av2e  Eveyone knows this song aswell as seen the strange video but I wanted to share that Nick and I think this guy looks kinda like Uncle Dordan(written about previously).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCRE9qOgbug&list=FL9UyHI5ADFWoN0fdZv2SL4g&index=2&feature=plpp_video  Theres no words to describe how happy this makes me. baaa

comic anyone?

During a visit with a friend I mentioned the idea of starting a comic on this blog. I can't draw so obviously it would be a stick person comic. He refuses to read it if its made out of stick people. So my new idea is to draw him as a stick person. He can't hate himself unless of course he's F****ed up. So I have been thinking...maybe I SHOULD do a comic about him and his adventures and he can be the most adorable stick person ever! And of course add nick and I as we are more awesome than he is even if he's hating on stick people and himself.  Dordan if your reading this yes im drinking the Amaretto that you brought over for me and YES I'm serious about making a stick person comic about you because your too far away to stop me. Muahahahahaha!  Comic coming soon!

Also my day totally got shittier from this morning. Not only did miss. S barf ALL OVER THE HOUSE but rye has the runs and so badly that his diaper blew up at nap time and this icky gel stuff came out of it. I know gross and you probably hate me for sharing but I already warned that this blog may sometimes offend others. And wtf is up with exploding diapers and that gel??? Is cheap whatever choice brand trying to kill us???  If they are going to put gel in diapers they should use more chemicals to make it easier to clean up. This is why I usually use cloth diapers, I dont have to clean up gel pellets.

Its been THAT kind of morning

You know the type of morning when the baby shits all over his crib and himself, the 7 year old doesnt do her homework or get ready for school when asked to and the 4 year old refuses to get dressed and you know you will never make it out the door on time to get 7 year old to school so you gotta harrass your neighbor to take her? That was my morning.

Also Men don't even realize when you give them a compliment. Here is Nick and I this morning while he shaves:

Nick: huh I got a scar on my chin
Me : Yeah it totally looks badass
Nick: I had no idea it was there. You knew it was there?
Me: yes
Nick: You'd think I would have seen it as I look at myself every day
Me: Shakes head and rescues screaming kid

Husband talk

Yesturday another mama and I were talking about xmas gifts while waiting for our kids at the school. She knew what my husband bought me and I told her about how hubby purposly makes it obvious that he's got a suprise for me and of course wont tell me. It drives me crazy. Hubby and I were goinng through emails last night when I came across the proof.

This is what he said to me on October 28th 2008:
1 present from them(the kids) and one from me. Their things we all need...and the one u'll like the best anyways is more or less for u, but we can all share it lolz, teehee u dun know what it is, nanananana!!!

Chicken Talk ... cluck cluck!

A friend asked that a post a chicken recipe and I discovered something about myself. I don't really have anything chicken related that exciting to share. You can put chicken in pasta dishes or stir fry and fajitas.  So I shall describe a meal that the family enjoys aswell as chat about buying chicken for lower cost as I have talked to other mama's who are struggling aswell to feed large families with grocery costs so high. Between job losses or just being a one income or lower income family it really is hard to get by.

First Stuffed chicken. Its a favourite and its simple.

First I buy one chicken breast at the meat market down the street from me. The chicken breast is 5$ and its huge and does not shrink when cooked. Feeds My husband, kids and myself. So after I make that purchase and get it home I insure my cooking area is clean and start workin.
So now cut a hole through the chicken breast. Stuff cheese in that hole.  Then after that I roll the chicken breast in italian bread crumbs. I buy the big can of those as I often use bread crumbs for chicken legs aswell. Im am looking for my own recipe for bread crumbs so i wont have to buy them.
Put in oven and cook. Cook time should be somewhere around 30 minutes. Clean your cooking area again.   Any side will do with the chicken. I often make rice and whatever vegies I have available.

So I rarily buy boneless skinless chicken breasts. First theres hardly any flavour and second they are expensive. I buy the large packs of chicken legs and wings whenever those go on sale. I can get packs for $3 most weeks which will feed us one meal plus leftovers for hubby to take to work. I  also look for the meats that have the discount sticker on it because its close to expiry. I always check the date first to make sure its not already bad and then freeze right away.  I also watch for sales on whole chickens. Freshco puts them on sale for 5$ once in a while so I always pic up a couple extra. Usually theres a limit so I make hubby go and buy some aswell. We have a large upright freezer so we are able to stock up during really good sales. I usually have a large stash of swiss chalet dipping sauce for this reason.

I know this post is about chicken but I wanted to mention that I also watch for turkeys to go on sale. Back in the fall at Food Basics turkeys were 10$ each and a good size. A small - medium sized turkey will feed us for days and freezes just fine after being cooked. I can't resist a good turkey sandwich and hate processed sandwich meat so this works well for me.

Hopefully cassy enjoys my chicken recipe and families new to being frugal find this helpful.

Most Amazing Game EVER!

If you like plants and also like zombies then here is a game for you!
http://www.popcap.com/games/plants-vs-zombies/online

Heres another zombie link. It's the ABC's made with zombies! This would have made kindergarden more exciting.
http://zombiefont.com/zombified/1kb

Thank Rye for having a birthday post about zombies that did not show up for the party because now your stuck looking at zombie stuff...unless your offended by zombies then you don't have to look. You should though because its amazing. I promise I will post stupid non zombie related stuff another day but today its the blog theme.

I should clarify im not doing a theme every day...chances are there wont be a theme ever again but because I'm stuck in my own little world it could happen again..maybe.

It's his party and damn right he's gonna cry

Well The party is over, he has not napped and yes I have tried to make him. He refuses and would rather scream for no reason. Okay I'm sure he has a reason but can't tell me. Well I have found a way to make him slightly happier. You remember that movie The Beatles made a long time ago when they were clearly really really REALLY high? Yellow Submarine. Thats what makes this kid happy.
He really liked the cake too

Other than ryker being miserable on his birthday there was other goings on. Miss. S tried to assasinate a good friend of ours and Miss.V barfed. I know gross but i was totally prepared for anything including zombies...ok not 100% prepared i'll admit  but hubby and I are still working on plan C. Thankfully zombies didn't come because the party theme was Star Trek not zombies and I don't know if there was any zombie/Star Trek episodes which would be awesome by the way.

This is what the cake looked like before it was attacked.

Pork & Apples - Its like desert for supper!

I wont be giving exact recipes due to the fact that i only measure stuff when I HAVE to.  I'll just give  the basic idea.

So for pork and apples start with making a mixure in a little bowl of cinnamon, brown sugar and olive oil. Put however many porkchops you want onto a baking sheet and cover with mixture. Cook in oven at 350 for about 20 minutes(longer if you have really big pork chops). Peel and cut up apples and use the same mixture and stir in with the apples. when the pork has been in the oven for 20 minutes add the apples on and around the pork. cook for another 5-10 minutes. 10 minutes if you like the apples well cooked 5 if you just want them hot. Add whatever sides you want. Sometimes I just cook up alot of apples and that is the entire meal.  This is a favourite for my family. Even the kids love it and they hate eating.

It's been a while...

..since my last post. I had meant to post on a regular basis but life got weird here and alot of things i wanted to do didnt get done. Heres a small update as i dont actually have a set topic to post about or pictures to share as im too lazy to upload them.

Rye has his first christmas and really didnt know what to think about it. The kid probably thinks he was born into a family of crazy people...and he's correct if he's actually thinking that but I dont know for sure because he's a baby and doesnt tell me. The tree and presents confused him and all the decorations that he wasnt allowed to touch just pissed him off. Hopefully he will be more thrilled about the holidays next year.

Miss.S is doing good in school and her speech has improved greatly.  At home she still does the opposite of what we tell her so now whenever we are around people I get strange looks when i tell her to do something horrible just because I dont want her to do it. Seriously works...most of the time. That trick backfires on occasion.

Miss. V is also doing great. she reads...ALOT.  She also just recently learned to skate without holding onto anything. Perhaps I can find some classes. Maybe she can go into the fancy skating classes.

Maverick the cat is still plotting my murder im sure. The dog stinks and the outdoor cat Tassle is still fat regardless of  what and how much we feed her. Shes suckered a bunch of neighbors into feeding her aswell. Why they would fall for her cuteness I shall never know.

I'll probably post a recipe next time. With pictures of course because pictures are fun and make others hungry. Muahaha!

That is all.
